The E-Boss

I am on my third iteration of working with the Remote Boss. I work in a "field office" of an entity headquartered on the West Coast, and over the course of the past year I've been asked to do projects for people over there. This particular Remote Boss just may be my favorite.

I have spoken to him twice by phone and he appears to either be shy or overworked. However, he is particularly lucid in e-mails and according to his secretary, he is a technophile. Which is something I greatly admire. He appears to have some interesting cases and matters and seems to be a very nice guy, so that presents itself as a nice change.

The great thing is that I am supervised but have a lot of independence. It is spoiling me rotten. Curses, you good boss. I may never accept being micro-managed again.

I must be the only person who goes to a company retreat, is given a free leather embossed business card holder, and then goes to the hotel shop and buys another business card holder. But I couldn't resist. And it just so happens that the one I bought is the pretty sherbet-y colors of this here blog, replete with white contrast stitching, even. It was just so terribly cute, sitting there in the display case. I was caught up in the milieu of corporate excess, having just come from a very nice luncheon on my employer's dime and previously having bathed in the tub in my employer-paid room. Who can blame me for my moment of weakness?

What She Watches

Newest TV obsession: SciFi Channel's Ghost Hunters.

Reasons:
1. Steve
2. Steve
3. Steve
4. Steve
5. Spooky stuff

I don't think they necessarily disproved that the flash of light in the one room upstairs was not paranormal activity, but that's just me.

Vying for Attention

a part of me wants to join the rest of my profession who keep blawgs and write about the practice and my daily experiences with it, however, once i wait about two minutes and think about the endless spew of garbage that would probably spew forth, i re-gain my composure and don't think about it until the next time that a lull in billable hours has me trolling about. which these days happens on a frequent basis (not good).

i don't know why it is. sometimes i make visits to other people's blawgs and see a long, long list of links to other corners of the internet that prove to be well worth the visit once the link is clicked. i imagine all of the site traffic that could gradually come here if i just posted all of these tidbits about my life, started posting links, etc. but i know that if i started, posting, i would not know where to stop. and some of the things i know now about my practice i wish i would have never known, and they are things that need to be told if someone really wanted the "full story" as to where i am these days. but something is keeping me from spilling all of those details in a more "public" way. and i want to tell a good story, i really do. and the story about my work life that excludes these details is a boring story.

i admire people that do post anecdotes, stories, and musings about life as "we" (in the collective sense) know it (and how!). i'm far too much of a pansy to make that leap. so for now, i think i'm just going to post my meaningless, fluffy posts about the things that make me supremely happy, such as my previous post.

Parenting Karma Backlash Expected

We were visiting my sis this past weekend, and because she lives in the middle of this fine country we decided to fly. I had prepared for it being full of harassment from a toddler, sleep deprivation, and lost of frustrative venting on the part of Conan. However, The Governor was wonderfully behaved and that contributed to it being a pleasant and enjoyable trip. However, I wonder if this means that our parenting karma has a negative balance, which would mean that he will morph into demonic spawn the second I get home from work today. We shall see.

I'm still working on trying to get him to smile normally. We are to partially blame for pictures like this:

We actively encourage wide smiles when he started smiling on cue, and they just started to become more exaggerated as time progressed. I'm not sure what the cure is, but I guess for the meantime we should view attempts at emulating post-modern paintings with some humor, I suppose:

more confessional time

i am officially in e-love with running with lawyers. you should read it. that is all.

well, actually it's not. you know that phrase "you made your bed, now lie in it?" well, it's moronic to make a bed, and then lie in it, because you just made it. you would get the sheets wrinkly again and de-fluff the pillow, and that's no good at all. well, actually, The Governor sleeps on top of his covers on a made bed, but i've let it slide because he's ruler of this little corner of reality.

Take Note

I am most definitely getting myself a supermaggie scarf. I've been drooling over the Vertical scarf in Supergirl.
