To Wit: Wit

I was asked last minute to give a quick-and-dirty presentation to about 35 executives this morning to help them kick of their meeting. I am such a nerd because one of the first things that I said was how much I loooved working at my company because everyone was fairly young, and therefore it "made things fun."

After I rolled my eyes and said, "likeomigod," I'm sure they were thrilled that I was one of their legal representatives.

My favorite break-the-ice tactic is to acknowledge my own youthful appearance. Not in the "I drink from the fountain of youth" way--more the "don't ask me if I'm alone and where my parents are" way. I did the same this morning, and as expected they all laughed. But they may have been laughing because my words were an accurate description of what they were thinking.

The Boy Once Again

Today is The Governor's birthday. I sent him to his first day of summer camp with his cheeks and limbs the color of perfect carmel candies from having visited the pool with my mother and father 5 of the past 8 days. He was at their house for the week, and just had the most fabulous time. He told me on Thursday night that he would like to stay there, but thankfully relented on Friday and said that his missed his mom and dad. I would have liked to say that I enjoyed the quiet of a child-less house, but I was sick for the entire week. I am still getting over my bout with some sort of weird summer flu, but antibiotics have been my friend for the past two days.

Tonight, we will have dinner at one of His Honor's favorite restaurants, and come home and unwrap presents and have a little cake (of the ice cream variety, of course). I will continue to wonder at all of the changes as of late, including a curiosity that rivals that of the best cross-examining trial attorneys out there. I missed him quite a bit last week, but perhaps I was too dizzy and exhausted to notice. But he is back with us and what a wonderful thing it is to hold his hand in mine.

There and Back Again

Being on vacation with my family (my mom and dad, my brother and his family, and my sister-plus Conan and His Honor) is not really much of a vacation. It's stressful watching after 3 kids, particularly if: a.) one of them wakes up in the middle of the night, screaming "I need something! I need something!," and b.) one of them (His Honor) is sick, and c.) there is no air conditioning in the vacation house.

So, we're back at home a day early in order to get some quiet, rest, and recuperation. Then day after tomorrow, it's back to work and yet another type of madness.

I'm in the middle of watching Secretary. Why has no one told me that: a.) Maggie Gyllenhal is gorgeous, and b.) this movie is so wonderfully scripted? Why why why was I not informed of these salient facts?

Tasty

If I was the "missed connection" recipient/target in this craigslist MC post, I would be thinking "mmm....120 empanadas....how can I get them without him looking?"

Maybe she was being flirty as a distraction? What would you do for 120 empanadas? In my opinion, it's worth a little showing of the leg.

Thinking, thinking, thinking...

I just thought of a great way to work in a Brad Pitt reference into a training module. However, I don't know if I'll get to hold this particular type of training, and it makes me a bit sad.

In addition, I am slightly peeved that in The Life Aquatic the script refers to the language being spoken by the pirate-type Asian-looking guys as "Filipino." There really isn't any language called "Filipino"-- several dialects are spoken in the country itself. The most prominent dialect is Tagalog. However, Tagalog isn't prominent in the areas where insurgents base their operations.

I really should get out more often.
