The fabulous thing about knitting a hat top-down is that you can try it on for length as you go along. Even when it's obviously not completed, a try-on is not a bad thing.
Another knitter can tell from this picture that I'm a big fan of the KnitPicks Options
interchangeable needles--the telltale purple cord is present and accounted for in this picture. Maybe tonight, if I don't pass out from the sheer exhaustion of a week's worth of work-related stuff, I'll come close to finishing the item in the above picture.
The delivery came yesterday, and I am 350 pages into it. I'm reading it slowly. It's taking a while because I needed to refresh my recollection of where everything had left off at the end of Half-Blood Prince.
Today is strictly a "centering" day. Being an introvert, I tend to only be able to function well after I've had days to "organize" my thoughts. Sometimes when I'm knitting or making jewelry, I'll map out in my mind all of the tasks that I both need and want to to that day, the next week, and in my lifetime. Conan wonders why I knit--it's because I'm a kinetic thinker. I get to do something quietly with my hands while I think. I've knit a few rows of Rusted Root on the back patio between my reading. I'm altering it by changing the lace panel to the "Dropping Elm Leaves" pattern in the first Barbara Walker treasury. The pattern is giving me ideas on what to do with the mmmmalabrigo I bought about 4 months ago--I'm thinking raglan pullover with an asymmetrical lace pattern or two and with flared sleeves. Will need to sketch it out and do a rough pattern to see if it will work.
Happy Deathly Hollows reading day to all!
I finished the Carie cardigan yesterday afternoon, and was all jazzed to take pictures and show it off. So I attempted yesterday evening to do that multi-tasking thing that other mom-types seem to do so well. Clearly, I can't seem to get a hang of it, even though I tried by attempting to take pictures and getting The Gov ready for his bath at the same time. Keep in mind that bath-time for a 5-year old is pretty low key, with most of the effort spent on cajoling said child into the bath. I'd accomplished that task, and then set about to taking pictures while His Honor went about his bathtime administrations.
What I didn't count on: taking the best picture of me wearing the sweater at the precise moment that he decided to slip into the bath.
So I give you the following masterpiece, entitled "Completed Cropped Cardigan Against Bathtime Background:"

It's done, y'all:

Very excited about finishing my first sweater-type thing for myself. I've been needing a cute cover-up since I've been collecting summery dresses for the past couple of years. In order to wear them to work, it requires a little bit of modesty, so I think this does the trick. I'm actually going to start a navy blue one in Lamb's Pride in a needle size that's three (!) sizes down. If you can't tell from the pic, this one doesn't really "hold" my bodacious ta-tas--it just sort of covers them up. With a smaller needle size, I'll probably have to do more raglan increases, but I think it should hopefully be fine. If not, I'll just give it to my rail-thin sister.
My parents called tonight while watching a basketball game. If they sounded completely exhausted, it's because they probably were--they just arrived home from transcontinental travel. I think that the following package contents may cheer them up some:

It's a pair of ballband dishcloths and a handmade card. Knowing them, they won't use the dishcloths unless I threaten them with disownment. "They're too nice," they'll say "a keepsake." But they really should use them--I think the garter stitch may be particularly good a scrubbing out caked on food.
